St Thomas College of Nursing Kattanam is a professional, self-financing institution owned and managed by Mar Thoma Medical Mission of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church which is a registered society under The Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies It is one of the teaching institutions attached to St.Thomas Mission Hospital Kattanam, which is a 250 bedded multispecialty Hospital with history of Nursing Education since 48 years and excel in patient care since 76 years. St.Thomas Mission Hospital, Kattanam was established under the patronage of His Grace Yuhanon Marthoma Metropolitan in 1948. St Thomas College of Nursing Kattanam owes its existence to Our Lord’s abundant mercy and blessings and the visionary excellence of late His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, our founding patron. With a deep sense of gratitude, we remember all those who worked in various capacities and contributed to build this institution. At present,The Most Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan is the Patron and Rt. Rev. Mathews Mar Seraphim Episcopa is the Chairman of our institution.
The college is recognized and approved by the Indian Nursing Council, Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council, and is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences. The college was established in 2008. The first batch of M.Sc Nursing commenced on 2015 From its inception, the college endeavors to equip students with competencies necessary for rendering holistic care to society. The college endeavors for the academic and extracurricular growth of its students through the proficient leadership of Prof. Dr.Nahomi Clement, Principal, Prof.Rani T, Vice Principal, and a task force of resourceful and well-experienced teaching and non-teaching faculty. The college deliberately attempts to empower our nursing students to lead an aesthetic and meaningful life to radiate the fragrance of God's love with discipline and determination. The college possesses qualified, well-experienced teaching faculty in all five specialties and has extremely efficient tutors who are employed in the professional and personal growth of the student. Nursing education is well supported by the strong hands of dedicated faculty. The staff are working collaboratively to refine and empower students to respond to the complex needs of society at the globel level in all evolving setting.

The faculty members of the collage of Nursing believe that:
- Nursing: is an applied science which has a unique body of knowledge that utilizes principles from the physical, biological , and behavioral sciences. The central concern of nursing is the holistic person.
- Nursing education: must be dynamic and responsive in preparing students for the current and future nursing needs of people in a changing health care delivery system..
- Students: enter the nursing program with a variety of educational and life experiences and from diverse cultural backgrounds. The goal of the nursing program is to help student assimilate the knowledge, judgment, skill and values of the professional nurse..
- Clients: possess unique biological, intellectual ,spiritual ,psychological and socio cultural dimensions. Clients are members of families, other small groups and communities that share belief systems, provide mutually reinforcing support networks, and define expectations for health and illness behavior..
- The environment: encompasses all that is internal and external to the person. The person interacts with the environment by either adapting to the environment or the environment to one’s self..
- Health: is unity and harmony within the mind, body and spirit which is unique to each person, and is as defined by that person. Health is on a continuum with movements between a state of well-being and illness..
- Communication: is an interpersonal process that involves verbal and nonverbal exchanges of information and ideas through reading, writing, speaking, and listening and procession information..
- Caring relationship: are critically important and successful coping with the inherent stressors of the collage and will strive to provide a positive environment. The faculty roles will include those of facilitator, mentor, stimulator, and socializing agent. Recognizing that the student has unique life experience, the faculty will utilize various teaching strategies to assist in individualizing the learning process.
- The teaching-learning process: is a joint responsibility of faculty and students through mutual sharing, learning and growth occurring in an atmosphere of respect, collegiality and affirmation.
- Critical thinking: skills are generated through the interactive decision-making steps of the nursing process. The nursing process is a theory –based systematic and holistic approach to nurse-client interaction. Professional nursing roles are direct care provider, teacher-learner, collaborator, client advocate, change agent, leader and research consumer. Research enhances professional nursing practice.
